Clean Heart plays in Tubarão, Santa Catarina (2003)

In 2003, my friend Fran from Tubarão, Santa Catarina invited me to her birthday party, which would happen at the same weekend of a church reinauguration, a church (Comunidade Betsaida) which her father (Edson Zaneripe) was a pastor. That congregation had a vision to become an underground-ministry church in that town.

I was wondering how I could go (since I was in São Paulo city 10-hour distance from there). That was when she told me the band Clean Heart (power / heavy metal band also from São Paulo city) would go, because they would also play in a concert there in the church. Then I had no more doubts, I made my decision to go.

I didn't know the guys of Clean Heart, even though they were members of Zadoque (church) and I was often there. I met them at the bus station and the friendship started very easily.

It was a  great weekend with all of them, we were very well received and although we had a busy schedule with the concert, a prayer moment, service with communion, the birthday party, we could also visit and swim in a beautiful waterfall.

Rodox at Centro Cultural de São Paulo (CCSP) - January 2003

Rodolfo Abrantes was the vocalist for the Brazilian rock band Raimundos, a band which used to mix rock/hardcore with dirty lyrics and folk Northeastern music. They became huge in Brazil in the 90's.

After a long process and influenced by his wife, Rodolfo decides to give his life to Christ and experiences conversion to Christianity. This was the moment he started a battle against himself, his addictions and all the wrong world he had built around him. In the midst of this personal chaos but now with a clear aim in life, Rodolfo leaves Raimundos officially and starts a new band called Rodox.

In 2002 they released Estreito, going to a hardcore / metalcore direction, and it was an instant hit for the majority of his old loyal fans but also a success with a whole new group of fans: Brazilian Christians (who knew Raimundos and their creativity but were constantly refraining from listening to them due to their lyrics).

A concert was announced for January 17, 2023 and I was decided to go. So together with a friend we headed to Centro Cultural, the venue it would happen and there we met an interesting crowd. Apparently half of the people were old and loyal fans of Rodolfo and the other half excited Christians who were about to enjoy a high quality hardcore show.

The concert was intense, Rodolfo was energetic as usual and the crowd knew all songs and would sing along enthusiastically (including the writer here). Rodox also played a P.O.D. cover "Alive" and the public welcomed it very well. At the end of the concert I was in sweats but very satisfied with all I saw. It's worth mentioning the technique and ferocity of Fernandão (Fernando Schaefer) who got the attention of people many times during the concert.

We managed to take photos with some members of the band, including Rodolfo and Fernandão. I was wearing my white Exousia t-shirt and I remember telling Rodolfo "I'm glad you're a brother now".

I only had a camera on me (not even digital yet) but Karabina had a camcorder and luckily we now able to check the whole concert.
